Welcome to my Prie-Dieu

Welcome to my Pire-Dieu. A Pire-Dieu is a Prayer Desk in a church which is used for devotional purposes. You can kneel and pray, but it also comes with a little shelf for prayer books and other contemplative items. This is a virtual version of my shelf.  I will post my articles, letters and other Catholic activity here.  Image: Window in the Franciscan Abbey Church, Galway, Ireland.

Remembrance of the Dead Ceremony Galway Ireland 8 November 2025

Remembrance of the Dead Ceremony in Knocknacarra Galway This was in the St. John of the Apostle Church, Galway It is when you remember all the people who died in the Parish during the last year The Mass Leaflet: The writing is in Irish/Gaeilge Ar dheis De go Raibh n-anamacha uaisle meaning  At the right hand of God were noble souls (Don't worry no one really understands Irish) They had a wooden stand on the alter and people would put their candles on it The Priest would call out the names of the dead and a relative would be called up to light their candle and place it on the stand. The light from the candles made it difficult to get great pics but you get the idea. Before the candles were lit: The Candles: They had the names of the deceased on the other side.

Croí Nua Spirituality Centre - Synodality A reason for Great Hope

I was at a talk about  Synodality - A Reason for Great Hope (4 hours long) it was in Croí Nua Spirituality Centre Galway City Some pics: This was a really cool building. I was never there before. The talk was by: Julieann Moran. She is the General Secretary of the Synodal Pathway of the Catholic Church in Ireland pic: She was accidentally included in this pic. I was actually trying to capture the text on the screen It related Synodality to the Gospel of Mark 2:1-12  We had to think about what everyone was thinking and feeling in the story and what we would do in that situation Then it was basically talking about synodality and everyone said it was taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R  Also, we had to sit in circles and do a  'Conversation of Spirit' I wasn't really sure what that was. It sounded a bit scary. I think they need to change the name. Everyone sat in small circles I had a smart group Everyone took turns to speak for 2 minutes Pause No responses or interruptions. Then any ...

St Mary's Dominican Church Claddagh Galway and an actual Prie Dieu

I was walking around Galway and I popped into  St. Mary's Dominican Church in the Claddagh I knew it was there because of the Knights of St Columbanus Camino last year but, I hadn't looked inside. Here are some pics (you know how to zoom in, don't you?) Just wow, isn't that amazing.. (not to mention all the cute little creatures) Another shot with the cute little creatures in focus, the barrier blocks the photo a bit Then there is an old fashioned confession box, but the Dominicans call it the  Sacrament of Reconciliation  One side says 'Kneeler' I assume that means the confessor The other side says 'seat' And last, but not least, inside the door an ACTUAL Prie-Dieu (Prayer Desk) The Prie-Dieu area There was a lot more, but I didn't want to appear like a tourist or something, maybe another day...
